About the Role

Position Summary:


We support some of the world’s most exciting brands; from international coffee chains to global burger chains; from huge education catering providers to leading hoteliers. Our solutions revolutionise how businesses address their compliance obligations, combining software with hardware to digitise formerly cumbersome, mundane processes.

We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to sit within our Engineering team. We require a knowledgeable individual with proven experience of working within GCP and managed services in the cloud that can help us maintain and later migrate our existing LAMP tech stack to AWS (PaaS).

You must be prepared to gradually move away from the VM based infrastructure in GCP, towards an AWS PaaS tech stack when required. Minimum requirements relating to AWS will be set at a later date in order to become eligible to join our AWS team. Training material on AWS to support your move to AWS will be provided if required.

You are not expected to have any existing AWS experience for this role, just the acceptance that you will obtain such skills up to a suitable level when required. Any existing AWS experience would be beneficial.

Working with both a domestic and international agile Engineering and Development team, you will benefit hugely from such a progressive environment, both professionally and personally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mentoring members of the engineering team including developers
  • Take pride in all the work undertaken and complete to the best of your ability
  • Take lead on devops projects as required
  • Remain current with best practices and quickly learn new skills as required in order to stay current within your technical field
  • Being accountable for GDPR, general data and system security in your day to day work
  • Recommend technical solutions to meet business requirements and resolve technical support enquiries
  • Taking part in Agile (Scrum/Kanban) ceremonies when required
  • You will be expected to pass requirements to join the AWS team when applicable. Training will be provided by Navitas Safety

Requirements:

 

  • Excellent time management & communication skills
  • Excellent understanding of managing Linux VM’s within a cloud environment
  • Experience working within an Agile team
  • Strong understanding of the SDLC (software development life cycle)
  • Experience with MySQL/MariaDB, schema design, profiling, SQL and query optimisation
  • Experience configuring & managing; Nginx, PHP, MySQL/MariaDB, Jenkins, Core GCP Services (firewalls, network design, migrations, etc)
  • Experience managing & searching logs
  • Open minded to new solutions, forward thinking and strong ability to adapt
  • Experience designing & writing scalable, optimised and loosely coupled infrastructure
  • Experience working within microservice architectures, distributed systems and cloud platforms
  • Desirable: Experience using NewRelic
  • Desirable: Experience working within AWS
